Middle School Student Must Read Book List

I didn't want to allow a global pandemic stand in the manner of gathering the titles of the amazing books my 7th graders loved this twelvemonth. This is the fifth yr that my students have gathered what they deem the very best books that they read this year and shared their recommendations with the world. As always nosotros have favorites that seem to popular up every year, merely this year nosotros also had a lot of new titles join the mix.

As always, I loved seeing what made the cut because I only could non do the piece of work I practice without the help of these incredible books.   Some of these are fine for all 7th graders, some are more mature, I am including them all so that you can brand your own determination.    All parents are informed of the range of books that are present in our classroom library so that students tin choose something that speaks to them.  Not all of these books are in my library just are books that the students have found and read independently.

Information technology was interesting to see just how many of these books I myself had read and book-talked, likewise as how many take been favorites 2 or more years in a row.  At that place were likewise many of these books that were book-talked past more than than one student such as Until Friday Night, Yummy, Scythe, and the Mortal Instruments.  Yet this also seemed to be the year where students connected to read most stories that they may not be familiar with themselves, however, despite my book talks, in that location are still sure gaps in what our students are loving. I hope you find their recommendations helpful. This yr, they created a slide to speak nigh their selection. Curl down to come across the list.

Other things I noticed were:

  • The most requested book was Long Manner down past Jason Reynolds, followed closely past any of Angie Thomas' books, Children of Claret and Bone past Tomi Adeyemi, and the whole Scythe series past Neal Shusterman.
  • High schoolhouse drama books that had a romantic twist were in heavy rotation.
  • And then were free poesy books and graphic novels.
  • Social justice books continue to carry a deep impact and are passed from hand to hand.
  • Kids reading interests range widely, some students gravitated toward more traditional literature this year while others solely devoured lighthearted center grade – this shows the incredible need for a broad and inclusive selection for all of our students.
